Burans drink – An Elixir from Himalayas

Written by

Burans/Buransh is Rhododendron arboreum or the tree rhododendron which is an evergreen small tree with bright red, pink or white flowers. It is the state flower of Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh. Also found in regions of Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and all the other neighboring countries. The flowers are widely known for it’s medicinal and ayurvedic purposes. The locals and small scale enterprises use the flowers to make squash, jams, jellies, sauces, pakode etc. .The flowers have endless benefits like curing heart, kidney, liver, sugar(diabetes) related problems. Apart from that, the beautiful sight of mountains filled with the bright red flowers, is something which is beyond words to explain(That’s what the travelers say, I am yet to visit the place). The Buransh flower has its mention in folklore, songs, festivals, and literature also.

So, why am I talking about Burans if I have not even seen it?. I am a regular customer of Healthy Buddha, a start-up run by Gautham & Anurag. HB home delivers fresh organic produce & curated grocery / pantry products, direct to customers in Bangalore for leading a healthy lifestyle. While ordering the daily groceries & veggies couple of weeks back, I found this limited edition Buransh – Spiced cooler which I was searching for a long time. Finally, I ordered and prepared the drink. I didn’t add ice or cold water while preparing but the cooling effect it gave to whole body was amazing. The cooler which I received was made by Himalayan Haat, a social enterprise run by a mother-daughter duo. The best part is, it came in a glass bottle, so I can reuse it in my kitchen(zero waste you know :P ) I am happily adding this to my Summer drinks list :)

I would like to thank Himalayan Haat & Healthy Buddha for this wonderful drink. My family(especially my kid) enjoyed the Summer drink of Himalayas sitting in Bangalore :D

Here are the pics of the drink and the cooler.

So if you can’t visit the Himalayas to have this drink, order it from Healthy Buddha (if you are from Bangalore) or Himalayan Haat and experience the bliss. But order it after the Covid lockdown and other restrictions are lifted(especially when it is directly from Himalayan Haat).

P.S – Buransh Mahotsav, an annual art and cultural festival is celebrated in Kausani, a small town in Kumaon Himalayas. So if you want to travel Uttarakhand/Himachal regions, plan it during Spring season.

This is not a paid or promotional post.
