When I find edible greens around, it would remind my Amma’s food experiments with all the possible ways. Colorful idlies, mixed green/flowers chutneys, rice varieties, payasams, thorans (dry sabji/curry with grated coconut).. The highlight of those foods is we won’t get to know what all are the ingredients which went in 😝
Amma likes to prepare different food everyday. It might be from her own recipe or from some cookery shows or books/articles.
Honestly, I didn’t get any of those qualities 😉 It’s not that I hate cooking, I cook just to eat and survive. I don’t enjoy it like my Amma do😬
Today for the first time I made a mixed greens chutney(#tambuli).
Can you guess the greens I used?
I grinded all these leaves with grated coconut, a small green chilly, a small piece of ginger, and few cumin seeds. Tadka is optional. Additionally you can add tamarind pulp too, if you want more tangy chutney. I didn’t because one of the leaves added here will do the magic instead of tamarind.
We had this along with idli and Veldt grape powder from greenhands.in. The batter is made with traditional rices and whole black urad bought from greenhands.in. I have used multiple rices here like sornamughi, thanga samba and mappillai samba plus a small amount of millet too.
Check your garden and surroundings for the edible weeds and greens. We have an entire range of vitamin shop out there for free!
