Buttermilk as Summer drink

Few of my fellow friends told me that they don’t have any other social media accounts like Facebook, Instagram where I post often. Hence I thought of sharing the content which I post on FB and IG here also. Starting with the one I posted today on IG.

In Summer, I would like to have buttermilk stored in mud pots especially. It will have a natural coolness which will help your body to cool down. It also acts as astringent.

There are many versions of buttermilk which we can make at home. The one showed in pic is cucumber buttermilk.
Salad cucumber is chopped into small pieces and added to buttermilk along with chopped ginger, green chilly(optional), salt and coriander leaves.
๐ŸŒฟ
There is another variant called as Sambaaram in Kerala. It will contain buttermilk, curry leaves, green chilly, ginger, pearl onions(small onions) and leaves of lemon.
๐ŸŒฟ
Most of the people including myself, make buttermilk by adding water to curd which is quick way but the wrong way. The buttermilk is actually made by churning the curd. Churning curd separates the butter and the left over water is the buttermilk.
๐ŸŒฟ
Curd is considered as Pitta-kapha aggravating in Ayurveda. It also increases the mucous secretion in the body. We are not supposed to have curd at night. But it is advisable to have buttermilk.
๐ŸŒฟ
Buttermilk is made by adding 3-4 times water to full fat curd made from A2 cow’s milk and churning using a wooden churner or a slow blender. The butter will be separated while churning can be washed in fresh water and stored for later use(like ghee or as butter). The buttermilk also can be seasoned with rock salt, roasted jeera powder, pepper, black salt, etc.
๐ŸŒฟ
There are may variants of buttermilk. Cucumber, Vazhaithandu(banana stem),mango etc.

So what are you drinking during Summer? Share your summer drinks too.

As per ayurveda, Summer(Grishma) has not started yet. This is supposed to be Spring(Vasanta) but the temperature is soaring like summer here in Bangalore.
